Pokemon Sun And Moon Announcement: Video Analysis & Theories

Earlier today (26/02/16), fans of the Pokemon game series waited anxiously to hear news and potential confirmation of the newest installments to the series leaked the day before. However, after a very tense wait, the details leaked prior were confirmed and the squeals of excited Pokemon fans echoed worldwide, Pokemon Sun & Moon are officially on the way, due later this year (2016).

Now, in correspondence with the order in which the Pokemon games are usually released, fans were expecting more of a Pokemon Z release, especially after the X and Y game releases followed by the Ruby and Sapphire remakes (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire). I appreciate this makes little sense to those outside the community of avid Pokemon fans however, those within these borders will understand that it was what we were expecting. Now, that said when the titles Sun and Moon were trademarked, it was fair to say we were surprised however, the excitement for these new installments is still present regardless. Now, let’s look into the reveal video itself.

Although a brief video, we can make several assumptions about what we can inspect in the latest installment. The first notable thing we can see in this video is the new assumed flying type Pokemon, resembling either a woodpecker or humming bird of some kind. This leads us to believe the obvious that there are in fact going to be a number of new additions to the Pokedex in Sun and Moon. Could this mean some more mega-evolutions are going to be unveiled also? Furthermore, we can see numerous conceptual designs for vehicles. The most recent incorporation of cars and land vehicles in the Pokemon game series was in X and Y in which Lumiose City possessed a taxi service to help to traverse the enormous city. Could this be hinting towards a potential follow on to Kalos much like Black 2 and White 2? As it no longer seems we are getting Pokemon Z, or for a while at least shall we say.

Pokemon Sun And Moon Theories

As expected of the dedicated Pokemon fans, many theories of the new installments have already arisen in regards to the new designated region, new potential mega-evolutions, legendaries and generally about how the new games are going to tie in with it’s predecessors.

From what I have gathered so far, there are several reoccurring ideas:

  • Zygarde and it’s newly released forms are to be associated with the sun game. This is because of it’s forms needing photosynthesis in order to develop.
  • Sun and Moon are definitely going to have some relation to Kalos, whether they actually be based in Kalos or islands situated around Kalos. This is due to references in X and Y for instance, the sundial in Anistar City (Pokemon Sun).
  • Potential Mega-evolutions of Solrock and Lunatone both representing each of the games, possibly posing as exclusives.

All of these are relatively plausible ideas seeing as Zygarde’s new forms would seem redundant if only used in the new Pokemon movie. Futhermore, it would seem out of character for Nintendo & Gamfreak to not incorporate Kalos into the new games in some shape or form also considering how they are due a Pokemon X and Y follow on of some sort.

As this year progresses more teasers are bound to be put out there to taunt us but until the profoundly awesome moment in which these new games are released, it is fair to say we are going to let our minds run wild with these brilliant theories in order to get by.

Bethesda Wants A Piece Of The Hearthstone Pie

Hearthstone

It’s no surprise that with the massive success of Hearthstone, a lot of developers will want to cash in on such an easy yet brilliant idea.

Bethesda is clearly no exception, as they’ve formally announced The Elder Scrolls: Legends at E3 2015, a Free-To-Play card game coming out on the iPad and PC at some point in the future.

Warrior will also be taking a couple of big hits.  Execute, the class’ top removal option, will have its cost raised from 1 to 2.  Charge, the linchpin of all of Warrior’s combo decks, is being seriously reworked.  It will no longer give a minion +2 attack and the minion it is used on will not be able to attack the enemy hero for that turn, but it will also have its cost reduced from 3 to 1 to compensate.

Here is the teaser with absolutely nothing of value beyond announcing the game‘s existence.

Well, I’m not fond of teasers at all, I think we should just cut to the chase if you want anybody to care. That said, I must admit that I’m secretly hoping it will be even close to as good as Hearthstone, as The Elder Scrolls universe has tons of room for such projects.

We’ll see what’s up when it drops but until then, I need more to get me properly salivating.

Telltale’s Game Of Thrones Gets First Teaser, Slew Of Details

Game Of Thrones

It seems like decades since we’ve heard anything on Telltale’s Game Of Thrones series. Luckily our collective luck has changed, as Telltale has graciously released the first teaser for Game of Thrones, and a nice bit of info to boot, so no more rumors and leaked screenshots – this is the real thing!

Sharpen your blades and steady your shields, for this teaser is quite a doozy. Sit back, relax, grab a cup of ale… or Mountain Dew, it doesn’t really matter and enjoy the first Game of Thrones video game teaser from Telltale below!

Here is the official press release in its entirety.

Today we can announce that some cast members of the series will reprise their roles in the game. While players will control five members of House Forrester in their story, the series will have them interacting with fan favorite characters throughout the season, including Tyrion Lannister performed by Peter Dinklage, Cersei Lannister performed by Lena Heady, Margaery Tyrell performed by Natalie Dormer, and Ramsay Snow performed by Iwan Rheon. Additional cast members will appear in later episodes.

The game series is based on the world, characters and events seen in HBO’s TV show, which in turn is based on George R. R. Martin’s books (A Song of Ice and Fire). The events in the game series begin towards the end of Season Three of the series, and end right before the beginning of Season Five. Players will visit familiar locations such as King’s Landing and The Wall, as well as unfamiliar locations such as Ironrath, the home of House Forrester.

House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.

The game will be played from five different points of view. Each is a member of House Forrester; either a direct family member, or a person in service to the House. Scattered across Westeros and Essos, each will play their part in seeking to save House Forrester from destruction.

Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that the player needs to be mindful of. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you’re truly playing the Game of Thrones… where you win, or you die.

Additional details on the series and its upcoming premiere episode, ‘Iron From Ice’ are forthcoming. Stay tuned to the Telltale Games Blog, twitter, and Facebook pages for more information as the premiere approaches, the first of six episodes, which will be arriving for download soon on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and iOS, with additional platforms to be announced.

Well, that sums it up nicely. Official cast members returning for their beloved voice – except you Ramsay, you’re despicable – is quite a nice touch. It’s also interesting to see an entirely new perspective on the incredibly well established land of Westeros. Telltale is quite brave for attempting to add their own story to such an interwoven tale.

Battlefield: Hardline First Official Trailer, Release Date

Battlefield

After two separate leaks that are questionably deliberate, it is again, no surprise that now EA has decided to just show off the highly innovative Battlefield: Hardline. E3 is just on the horizon, yet this is one of many early reveals, and like the rest, it’s naught but a tease.

Below is the approximately 40 second trailer that contains flashy imagery, bass-heavy tunage, lots of gunshots and explosions and some good ole’ cop drama to top it off.

I must admit that the focus on the campaign is refreshing to say the least, and this has definitely hyped me up for the imminent E3 reveal. I can only imagine the types of ideas Visceral will add to the already well-established franchise. I hope for the best, but it will be a long road as they still need to convince me that the setting is worth exploring.

You can expect Battlefield: Hardline to release on October 21 2014.
