Irrational Games Calls It Quits

Irrational

The studio responsible for popular titles Bioshock and Freedom Force will be shutting its doors for good.

Irrational Games, a Boston based company founded 17 years ago will be laying off the majority of its staff, reducing its number to about 15 core members.

“There’s no great way to lay people off,” said Ken Levine in a statement on Irrational’s website. “Our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.”

Levine has made it clear that the departing employees won’t be left out in the cold.

“Besides financial support, the staff will have access to the studio for a period of time to say their goodbyes and put together their portfolios.”

Levine is shutting the doors to focus on what he calls a “smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor,” with Take Two Interactive, who bought Irrational Career PageIrrational in 2006.

A trip to the soon-to-be defunct studio’s career page results in an ominous 404 message.

The final release by the studio will be DLC for Bioshock Infinite available on March 25. Appropriately titled Burial At Sea , it will be a follow up to an expansion of the same title and cost $15. Levine has said it will contain four to five hours of new content and gameplay.

Titanfall “No Servers Found” Bug Fix in the Works

Titanfall

If you were lucky enough to get into the Titanfall beta, it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically lucky enough to play whenever you want. A beta-related bug has made its way into the game, known as the “No Servers Found” Titanfall error.

Basically, some players will get this error message in the main menu when loading the game. Strangely, this is not a real error and it doesn’t mean that there are no servers available, it’s just a bug from Microsoft’s cloud server system that made its way into the game.

Respawn Entertainment’s Jon Shiring tweeted: “In the Titanfall Beta you’ll see “No servers found” at the main menu. This is the bug I just tweeted about. MS is working on it.”

While gamers were clearly upset by this bug, Shiring took the time to note: “For the record, this is why we are doing a beta.”

Hopefully the problem won’t last for long and everybody will be able to join the Titanfall Beta. If you’re upset that you can’t get it, why not check out the 10 bad things about the game to make the pain bearable?

Titanfall: PC Beta Will Take Longer to Reach Players

Titanfall

Respawn Entertained has announced via twitter that Titanfall PC beta might take a few more hours to reach players all over the world:

@Respawn (17/02/2014): It may take a couple more hours to get the PC beta out to everyone who registered. Please be patient, Origin is going as fast as they can.

This trial experience is not publicly open to everyone, the company explained earlier that you no longer need a key to access, however you needed to request a beta key before in order to participate in the PC beta:

@Respawn (17/02/2014): Hey PC players: Did you register before 4pm PST yesterday? Check your My Games Library in Origin, getting more people in to test servers.

In the next few hours, all players must be able to download the 12GB beta version of Titanfall and play the game until February 19th. This generalized beta has established a new testing phase, in which the main purpose consists in analyzing Titanfall’s server performance – it’s mainly a stress test.

GTA Online: Valentine’s Day Update Brings a Massive Massacre

Warner Bros Plans to Focus on DLC Instead of Fixing Batman: Arkham Origins Problems

Warner

It looks like gamers have a new company to hate, after Warner Bros Montreal decided to announce that they would rather focus their efforts on creating a new Batman: Arkham Origins DLC instead of fixing the problems reported by fans all over the internet.

Even though many players report Batman: Arkham Origins crashes, game freezes and a bunch of other glitches that make the game if not unplayable, at least extremely unpleasant, Warner Bros Montreal would rather make some extra money:

“The team is currently working hard on the upcoming story DLC and there currently are no plans for releasing another patch to address the issues that have been reported on the forums,” posted community manager “Mercury” on the games’ forums.

This is absolutely enraging and proves the state of gaming in today’s world: every company is out there to make a profit and not to deliver an enjoyable, flawless product to the audience. And the audience keeps giving these people money, encouraging such practices, as the community manager went to further detail:

“If we do move forward with creating a new patch, it will try to address the progression blocking bugs for players, not the minor glitches that do not prevent one from continuing to play. The issues that are not progression blockers will unfortunately no longer be addressed.”

Hopefully gamers will learn something out of this mess and will try to give Warner Bros a lesson about how they (and every other development company) should treat their customers: and by a lesson, I mean that nobody should buy the DLC and make it clear that we want a fixed game first, and money out of our pockets second.

Call of Duty Elite Free With Black Ops II

Black Ops

The Call of Duty Elite service provides players with new ways of tracking stats and hooking up with friends and unlike with Modern Warfare 3, it will be available for free for those who purchase Black Ops II. There is another change however, with Black Ops II there will be a season pass available for purchase. If you spring for the season pass you get four packs of DLC for $50. Previously, this service was available as part of Call of Duty Elite.

For the first time, in addition to tracking all of your multiplayer stats (including stats that you can’t simply get in-game), Call of Duty Elite will also be tracking players zombie stats. With the addition of two new zombie modes to go along with the classic survival mode that gamers have been used to, tracking these stats have becoming increasingly important.

Also, Call of Duty Elite can be useful for anyone in a clan or looking to join a clan. You can see all players in individual clans, what they’re doing, and how they’re doing. If you haven’t joined a clan, but have considered doing so, you can look at different clans and find one that suites you. Are you a Noob? Find a clan that’s beginner friendly. Maybe you’re a diehard, hardcore veteran that has probably been using Call of Duty Elite for Modern Warfare 3? Then you can search for clans as intense and deadly as yourself.

By making this service free, Treyarch and Activision have taken yet another step in embracing all of the types of gamers that enjoy CoD.

Will Assassin’s Creed 3 Be The Best In The Series?

Assassin’s

Assassin’s Creed 3 is shaping up to be another stellar entry in this beloved series. Featuring a new protagonist, new gameplay features and tweaks, upgraded multiplayer, and a more in-depth story, it seems like it will pull out all the stops. Releasing October 30th, it’s not long now until Assassin’s Creed 3 is finally released. But will it be the same significant jump from Assassin’s Creed II that Assassin’s Creed II was to the first game?

The single player is receiving huge overhauls. Guns will now play a much bigger part in combat, and rightfully so, the game takes place during the American Revolution. Our new protagonist, Connor, is dragged into the affair when his home is attacked by British soldiers. We’re going to be seeing a lot of historical figures in this game, as well. George Washington, Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin, among others.

Guns aren’t the only new feature, though. Dual wielding debuts and allows players to wield two weapons at once. The combat system has received enhancements to accommodate the new guns and dual wielding features. In addition, the free run system has been upgraded, and we can now run through buildings, and along trees as Connor.

Not to mention, Naval Warfare and navigating has received a huge push in this game. As Connor, we’ll be able to command our own ships, and combat other ships. This new feature looks promising, and the graphics look phenomenal during the naval battles. Your crew scurry around, frantic, when being shot at, and controlling the ship against the harsh waves looks tough, but really fun.

The multiplayer is back as well, and has received upgrades as well. There will be around a dozen modes present in the game at release, which is a big improvement over Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. And, a bonus for female gamers, you can now play as females in the multiplayer mode.

Overall, Assassin’s Creed 3 is shaping up to be great. I personally can’t wait for this game. The new features are promising, and as a big fan of the trademark gameplay and multiplayer, I can’t wait to see all the upgrades that are being included. If you, too, cannot wait for Assassin’s Creed 3, it’s just a few more weeks away! Assassin’s Creed 3 releases October 30th.
