G FUEL & Sentinels Secure Sponsorship Partnership

G FUEL

Many sports teams have official beers, seltzers, and so on. Now esports is entering the same arena by teaming up with one of the most well-known brands in gaming energy drinks, G FUEL.

If you’re new to esports, here’s a crash course. The term “esport” refers to any video game competition, usually done by professional players either individually or in teams. That means there are, in theory, as many competitive esports as there are multiplayer games that can fit into a competitive setting!

But who are the parties involved in this deal? Is G FUEL the right energy drink for you, sponsor or not? What does this mean for the future of esports? We’ll tell you everything you need to know about G FUEL and Sentinel, the esports company they partnered up with.

What is G FUEL?

The brand G FUEL is based in New York and is also known by the name “Gamma Labs.” They have been making energy drinks for roughly a decade. One of their biggest claims is that their drinks have no “sugar crash” because they are sugar-free. They do, however, have caffeine like most energy drinks currently on the market. Please read the label if this is a concern.

G FUEL is an energy drink made specifically for gamers. There are over 20 flavors for you to choose from, some of which are limited edition, and new ones are always being added. It comes in cans of pre-mixed formulas and powders that gamers can mix to their liking. It also comes in a Pop Rock-esque ”energy crystal” form if that is your style. The site also sells collectible shaker cups so you can really mix things up your way!

G FUEL has become a major brand by working with YouTubers and influencers in all realms of geekdom. True to its place in nerd culture, G FUEL themes its flavors after anime, comics, and video games; for example, they have “Sour Demon’ade” themed after DOOM, a ramen-themed collector set inspired by Naruto, and an official lingonberry flavor with Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie’s stamp of approval. There is even a “MoonPie” flavor in collaboration with the original makers of the classic snack!

The site currently has a promotion with Sonic- and Knuckles-themed flavors to tie in with the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Get it fast; these collectible drinks and sets tend to sell out!

Who is Sentinels?

The Los Angeles-based esports company “Sentinels” was originally a League of Legends team known as Phoenix1. They participated in the North American League of Legends Championship series in 2016. After the NALCS became franchised, Phoenix1 sold their spot and partnered with Colorado-based Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE). The team-turned-company rebranded to Sentinels in 2018.

Sentinels currently sponsors teams for Valorant, Fortnite, Halo, and Apex Legends. They have substantial YouTube and Twitch followings with 414,000 subscribers and approximately 18,200 followers, respectively. G FUEL will be sponsoring future Sentinels content.

But the best reason for the eSports company to work with G FUEL is on their official website: “It is our goal to build competitive teams across esports while connecting as many fans as possible into our network.”

G FUEL seems to agree that the mission mentioned above is part of Sentinels’s reputation. After the deal was made, G FUEL’s founder and CEO, Cliff Morgan, said “I’m excited to see what we’ll build together” and that Sentinels was “an ideal fit for the G FUEL family.” Read more about the deal on G FUEL’s official press release.

Overall…

This partnership looks like a win-win for both Sentinels and G FUEL, as well as the eSports scene as a whole. eSports are starting to look more like the sports Canadians already know and love with their own official beverage, and G FUEL has professional gamers showing their drinks during televised matches. Both parties are passionate about this deal. What’s next for eSports? Who knows!
