PS Plus, Games With Gold Freebies For October 2016

Resident evil remake..

PS

It is that time again. Sony and Microsoft have released their offerings for Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus for the month of October. For the first time in a little while, I can say get hyped if you’re on the Sony side of things. And even if you are not, you can always become a Sony fanboy, nobody would mind now, right?

Here are the free games for PlayStation users on all platforms, make sure you check out our list below and download them all:

  • Resident Evil – PS4
  • Transformers: Devastation – PS4
  • Mad Riders – PS3
  • From Dust – PS3
  • Code: Realize ~Guardian Of Rebirth~,  PS Vita
  • Actual Sunlight – PS Vita

Wow. Sony wanted to make a statement this month with a ridiculously solid headliner. One of the most influential games in the history of video games and a surprisingly fun action game from the legendary Platinum Games.

Resident Evil, the GameCube remake of the original title is one of the best remakes of all time. It perfected and changed everything that needed work in the original while keeping what makes the base game so pure and important. It is most surprising to me that it still manages to look that good on what was at one point limited hardware. The power of pre-rendered backgrounds!

Beyond this, we get the shockingly fun and solid Transformers: Devastation, another well-crafted action game that demonstrates that Platinum Games might be the Telltale of Japan.

Rounding this out is From Dust, one of my absolute favourite indies on the PlayStation platform. A simple yet elegant concept coupled with fantastic art direction and some superbly crafted gameplay segments. Or, in other words, something you definitely shouldn’t skip.

And now it’s time for the slightly underwhelming Xbox offerings.

    • Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings – Xbox One
    • The Escapists  – Xbox One
    • MX vs ATV Reflex – Xbox 360
    • I Am Alive – Xbox 360

I honestly don’t have much to say for this batch. While I can’t directly say that any of these games are good or bad having played only one of them briefly, it is very underwhelming given Sony’s fantastic freebies.

I Am Alive, a game stuck in development hell for far too long, is a mostly solid survival game that offers some unique mechanics and an interesting world to explore. It’s by no means a great game, but it’s worth the bandwidth and hard drive space.

Beyond that, I’ve heard good things about The Escapists, so I guess this will be my chance to check it out.

PS Plus, Games With Gold Freebies For September 2016

PS

With Final Fantasy XV PS being moved back to November, this might be the perfect time for another batch of free games from both Sony and Microsoft.

While this month isn’t astounding by any means, it has a few very good games that are easily worth the download.

Check out the free PlayStation games for the month of September, accompanied by another trailer that only shows off one-third of the offerings.

  • Journey – PS4
  • Lords of the Fallen – PS4
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands – PS3
  • Datura – PS3
  • Badland – PS4, PS3,  PS Vita
  • Amnesia: Memories – PS Vita

It is amusing to me that the headliners for this month are both one of my personal favourites ever made and one of my least favourites respectively.

Journey is a ridiculously gorgeous masterpiece that absolutely everyone needs to try. It is best played in one sitting with the lights off and a great sound system or headset to accompany you. It is a transformative experience that helped define indie games as art. Lords of the Fallen, however, achieves none of this.

It has a cult following which I can respect, but Lords failed to impress me in any way and actively angered me to the point of one refund and two deletions upon re-entry. It is Bad Souls and that’s about it.

Rounding out this list with Prince of Persia is a nice addition, considering that like the Sands, it was also forgotten after the atrocious Prince of Persia reboot in 2008. This game scrapped the cel-shading and went back to what made the franchise good. Too bad it never got any recognition, however.

With all of that said, here are the freebies from Microsoft.

    • Earthlock Festival Of Magic- Xbox One
    • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China  – Xbox One
    • Forza Horizon – Xbox 360
    • Mirror’s Edge – Xbox 360

It might be that I am getting senile in my 25 years on this planet, but I swear Mirror’s Edge has been free at least 47 times. That said, it’s still a genre-bending classic so that alone is worth the download if you somehow skipped it all these years.

On the flip side, Earthlock seems like a curious little game. I saw some negativity around the technical aspects of the game, featuring crashes and other such issues, but beyond that, it seems to be quite a fun ride.

Finally, Forza Horizon is probably the smartest move this month from Microsoft, as it is the best way to get anyone not already on board with Horizon to try it out before Horizon 3 launches later this year.

PS Plus, Games With Gold Freebies For August 2016

Games With Gold Freebies-vGamerz

Games with Gold Freebies 2016

While I am sadly a little late on this, both Sony and Microsoft have announced and released the next batch of games with gold freebies for the PS and Xbox platforms respectively, and it seems to be a decent month for us yet.

These are your PlayStation games with gold freebies for August 2016- this time with a trailer because Sony is inconsistent and strange.

  • Tricky Towers – PS4
  • Rebel Galaxy – PS4
  • Yakuza 5 – PS3
  • Retro/Grade – PS3
  • Patapon 3 – PSP, PS Vita
  • Ultratron – PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Yet another diverse month for Sony. From the brilliant Yakuza series to an indie space western to two completely different rhythm games, all bases are covered.

Rebel Galaxy, in particular, tickled my fancy, though it’s a bit unfortunate that No Man’s Sky came out mere days after we got this for free. I think Rebel Galaxy will continue to go unnoticed while an infinitely more intriguing, widely popular game of the same genre happens to release almost immediately after. Such a shame.

Here are the Games With Gold Freebies for Xbox owners this month. Did you know there are free games released every month on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One? It’s true!

    • WARRIORS OROCHI 3 Ultimate  – Xbox One
    • WWE2K16  – Xbox One
    • Spelunky  – Xbox 360
    • Beyond Good and Evil HD – Xbox 360

I was beyond hyped to see a Warriors game get the free treatment, so it’s quite disappointing that Warriors Orochi 3 is potentially my least favorite in the franchise thus far. It is a confusing, ugly, and jarring mess of a game that I can’t seem to get into.

However, it’s nice to see that for those of us who still haven’t played Beyond Good and Evil, we now have no excuse to skip it, and can then join the community online in protest for a sequel as one of the games with gold freebies for Aug 2016!

PS Plus, Games With Gold Freebies For May 2016

PS

With May upon us, it is once again time to dust off the PS4 and Xbox One and prepare yourself for a new batch of free games from Microsoft and Sony respectively. PS While last month was a glaring success for Microsoft, it seems they’ve taken a step back with some indies and games that, to be frank, most people already own.

Sony, while still not meeting the expectations set by Microsoft last month, has a few interesting titles for all of us loyalists at least.

Here are the PlayStation freebies for May.

  • Tropico 5 – PS4
  • Table Top Racing: World Tour – PS4
  • Switch Galaxy Ultra  – PS4, PS Vita
  • Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 – PS3
  • LocoRoco Cocoreccho! – PS3
  • God Of War Ghost Of Sparta – PS Vita, PSP

You have to hand it to Sony. They’ve been really trying to diversify the offerings of each month. After what felt like a year of nothing but 2D indie platformers, it’s refreshing that we will be getting something like Tropico 5, a fantastic strategy game that I didn’t even know existed on the platform.

It’s also nice to see Switch Galaxy Ultra, which is a game I’ve never heard of. I  think my favourite part about PS Plus is the idea that I’m constantly getting free games I’ve never heard of, just to find out that they’re mostly games I enjoy enough to buy them. Whether this is the case with Switch Galaxy Ultra remains to be seen.

For you equally loyal Xbox patrons, here are the games you will receive for the month of May.

    • Defense Grid 2  – Xbox One
    • Costume Quest 2  – Xbox One
    • Grid 2  – Xbox 360
    • Peggle – Xbox 360

What a random month for Games With Gold. After Microsoft blew it out of the water with the wonderful Sunset Overdrive, it is strange to see the headliner being a little tower defense game from 2014. That said, Defense Grid 2 is really tight and well, despite being a list that is not exactly a home run, every game is solid and well worth the download.

If you somehow neglected Peggle for all of these years, grab it, as it is potentially one of the most addictive arcade games available right now.

PS Plus, Games With Gold Freebies Of April 2016

sunset-overdrive-vGamerz

April is nearly here, and with it comes another great batch of free games from both Sony and Microsoft respectively. While Sony seems intent on offering indies and older games that you might’ve missed, Microsoft seemingly wants to demonstrate how you tackle April in style, as their offering might be the best I’ve seen in months.

Before we get to Microsoft though, here are the freebies for April.

  • Dead Star – PS4
  • Zombi – PS4
  • I Am Alive – PS3
  • Savage Moon – PS3
  • A Virus Named Tom – PS Vita
  • Shutshimi – PS Vita

Although there is nothing spectacular here, I’m quite pleased to see Zombi make the cut, as I was debating picking it up a few weeks back. Although it received a mixed reception, I can’t help but get the urge to jump into a never-ending zombie nightmare.

It’s also great to get another interesting space game, as I refuse to get tired of them. Dead Star eluded me and so I will be going in completely blind, but it certainly looks promising!

For Xbox owners, here are the games you will receive for the month of April.

    • Sunset Overdrive  – Xbox One
    • The Wolf Among Us  – Xbox One
    • Dead Space  – Xbox 360
    • Saints Row IV – Xbox 360

Wow. One of the biggest games on Xbox One is now free for anybody with a Gold subscription. I have wanted to play Sunset Overdrive for as long as I’ve owned an Xbox so again, this is a fantastic freebie. Ridiculously over the top action in an open-world full of actual colour!

What’s more is, there aren’t any slackers this month, as Dead Space is a phenomenal horror game, Saints Row IV is open-world zany madness, and The Wolf Among Us is Telltale at their absolute best. You really cannot go wrong.

PS Plus, Games With Gold Freebies For February 2016

Now that I own an Xbox One, I feel that I can adequately cover news related to that specific platform, which has, unsurprisingly, opened up many new avenues for me.

I’ve decided to start doing the freebies of the month again, now with the added bonus of Games With Gold to sweeten the deal.

With that said, here are the freebies for PS Plus.

  • Grid Autosport – PS3
  • Helldivers: Democracy Strikes Back – PS4, PS3, PS Vita
  • Lemmings Touch – PS Vita
  • Nom Nom Galaxy – PS4
  • Nova-111 – PS Vita
  • Persona 4 Arena Ultimax – PS3

I’m loving this line-up. While the last few months haven’t been outstanding, receiving the absolutely bonkers Nom Nom Galaxy and the ultra tight Helldivers seems like a pretty good deal. I wanted to spend 20 minutes learning Nom Nom Galaxy, and I ended up playing for twelve hours straight. Seriously. It’s that addictive.

And for Games With Gold, here are the games for the month.

16684_hig_res_crop_feb_r2t1_bl

  • Hand of Fate – Xbox One
  • Styx: Master of Shadows – Xbox One
  • Sacred Citadel – Xbox 360
  • Gears of War 2 – Xbox 360

From the revered Gears of War 2 to the underrated stealth action game Styx, this is probably the best month for Games With Gold that I’ve personally seen in my short time as an Xbox owner.

Remember, you can download the 360 games on your Xbox One via backwards compatibility, so don’t miss out!

PlayStation Co-Op Sale, Discount Codes Prepare You For Black Friday

Sony, like every other business entity, is chiming in on Black Friday and this week’s holidays with a nice sale. The theme this time is Co-Op, so grab some buddies and get playing… after you utilize the 10% code they’ve also included for a limited time.

Here are some of my favourites from the sale. As always, check out the official blog post for more info.

10% Code
Battlefield 4 Premium Edition– Despite a horrible launch that rendered the game unplayable for months, Battlefield 4 has turned around entirely. It still receives support and even has a new map to play after five terrific expansions last year. This is a pretty great price for all of the content, so now is the best time to try out Battlefield if you’re curious.

Lara Croft And The Temple Of Osiris Deluxe Edition – If for some reason you still don’t have PlayStation Plus and missed this as a freebie, Temple Of Osiris is a great sequel to an underrated and often forgotten game on the PS3.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – If you managed to miss out on the controversial hype-train that is Borderlands, this is a pretty reasonable price for three huge games that are begging you to grab a friend or three for hours and hours of questing.

Rocket League – Another for those of you who missed it being free on PlayStation Plus. This zany game is some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time and it even appeals to those of us who dislike sports. While this deal isn’t one of the best for your wallet, you can’t go wrong with Rocket League. I promise.

Serious Sam 3: BFE – Not every FPS needs to be a militarized snooze-fest. Serious Sam seeks to bring you back to the golden age of arcade shooters with ridiculously over the top action and a variety of strange enemies to slaughter. It’s so cheap that it’s worth the gamble if you’re not convinced.

PlayStation goes Retro In New Flash Sale… Mostly

Sony has just surprised the masses with another flash sale. The theme this week? Retro. From PS1 classics to modern PS4 titles, Sony has not only discounted many great games, but they’ve forgotten the definition of retro entirely…

Fear not Sony, there is always next week to correct yourself. I’ll forgive you, but I’ll never forget.

Here are some of my favourite picks from this week’s sale.

20693305649_24db9d97d6_z

Trials Fusion – For the masochists that adore unending challenge and horrific theme songs. This game is an absolute doozy.

Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger – At last, a return to the basics in one of the best downloadable shooters on the market. Unique scenarios with ever-changing battlefields will have you itching for just one more round to beat out your best score.

From Dust – A beautiful and simple game with you guiding a tribe of men and women to their safety while literally molding the earth around them. A unique and interesting concept that has been all too forgotten as of late.

OlliOlli 2: Welcome To Olliwood – For the skate fans that are sick to death of Tony Hawk’s ‘inventive’ new ways to play awful games. OlliOlli 2 is as addictive as it is excellent.

Child Of Light – A beautiful, hand painted RPG where every piece of dialogue is a part of a poem. Surprisingly depthy battle system, wonderfully lush locales to explore, and a light-hearted yet endearing story to behold. Child Of Light is one of the best Ubisoft titles in years.

If your wallet is feeling a bit stuffed, head on over to the official Sony blog post to find out the other great deals that are in available.

Playstation Plus: Games Of September 2014

The games of September 2014-Joe Art-vGamerz

Games Of September 2014

With September just around the corner, let’s have look at the games of September 2014. It’s of course expected that Sony would unveil next month’s free game line-up. Unfortunately, it seems that this month is a bit of a disappointment, as the games seem randomly plucked from the Store, especially HOARD. That said, whether you’ve played games such as Battle Royale or Joe Danger before or not, it doesn’t matter; they’re all entertaining experiences, and at the low price of free, I’m not one to hold a grudge.

  • Velocity 2X (PS4, Vita)

“Use the Quarp Drive teleport to outsmart the evil Vokh in race-tuned space combat, then dock your ship, jump out and continue the fight on foot! Velocity 2X is the visually dazzling action-packed sequel to Velocity Ultra, featuring amazing puzzle-platforming action alongside award-winning shooter gameplay!” This is our first pick for the games of September 2014.

  • Sportsfriends (PS4, PS3)

“Sportsfriends is a compendium of award-winning local multiplayer games for living rooms, parties, and even backyards. This is the reason it is second on the list of the games of September 2014. Featuring: retro-styled fighting game BaraBariBall, QWOP-like pole vault dueling game Super Pole Riders, high-velocity sports game Hokra, and face-to-face physical party game Johann Sebastian Joust. All the games are playable with the DualShock®4 wireless controller, while Johann Sebastian Joust can be further enhanced by the PlayStation Move Motion Controller (sold separately).

  • Playstation All Stars Battle Royale (PS3, Vita)

The third in the list of the games of September 2014, “From Kratos to Sly Cooper, Sweet Tooth to Parappa the Rapper, Sony characters from all over the gaming spectrum are brought together in a fighting adventure that’s both easy to play and hard to master. Take the battle online for competitive multiplayer action, or go head to head with a group of friends on the couch and prove once and for all who’s really the best!”

  • HOARD (PS3)

“HOARD is an innovative fast-paced arcade action-strategy title from Big Sandwich Games that puts you in control of conquering a medieval kingdom. Your goal is to build a giant pile of gold to sleep on in your lair. YOU ARE THE DRAGON: Scare villages! Burn castles! Collect treasure! Roast pesky knights and thieves! Compete or co-operate with other dragons in epic multiplayer battles!”

  • Joe Danger (Vita)

“Take Joe on a ride from zero to hero in a game that lives up to its big brother with no compromises. Eye-popping super-smooth 60FPS graphics use only the very brightest colors on Vita’s lovely screen, and we’ve revamped the JD control scheme so it plays just as nicely, too, including touch controls for the editor modes!”

  • TxK (Vita)

“Glowing vectors, explosive particle effects, and a pulse-pounding soundtrack are core elements of many modern arcade shooters – a style that Llamasoft defined with its seminal 90s tube shooter. TxK is the spiritual successor to that genre-defining work and brings you 100 levels of engrossing score-chasing gameplay, married to an outstanding soundtrack that will have your head nodding as you blast your way onto the scoreboards.” It is the last pick for the games of September 2014.

Playstation Plus: Games of July 2014

Games

It’s that time of the month again. Sony has revealed its line-up for the free games catalogue to all Playstation Plus users across all Sony platforms.

With hits like Strider and Muramasa Rebirth as freebies this month, this might be 2014’s best offering on free games so far.

Unfortunately hen you have an influx of random titles throughout the months, games like Towerfall Ascension are easy to forget or miss. This is why services like Playstation Plus and hopefully Games With Gold are so great.

Playstation 4
  • Towerfall Ascension

TowerFall Ascension is the definitive version of the hit archery combat game. Inspired by classics from the golden age of couch multiplayer, it’s a local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but hard to master and combat is fierce. TowerFall is best played competitively with friends, cross-legged on the floor within punching distance of each other.

  • Strider

Strider returns in a brand new adventure, complete with incredible side-scrolling action, and lightning fast combat all in a massive interconnected world! Download the full game now and become the original assassin!”

Playstation 3
  • Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3 brings Isaac Clarke and merciless soldier John Carver on a journey across space to discover the source of the Necromorph outbreak. He will then put his engineering skills to the ultimate test to create and customize weapons and survival tools. Play together with a friend or alone as Isaac Clarke using the seamless new drop in, drop out co-op functionality. Each mode offers unique story elements and gameplay.”
