The new Warzone Samoyed dog skin was allegedly plagiarized

The recent patch notes for Call of Duty: Warzone revealed what operator skin would be coming next. Developer Sledgehammer Games shared Samoyed; an upcoming skin based on the dog breed of the same name. However, following the reveal there have been accusations that the Warzone dog skin was plagiarized.

Twitter user saillin has accused Activision of stealing their content. The posted tweet says “I have to explain this matter, COD Vanguard Samoyed skin plagiarism”. Attached is an image showing saillin’s original art next to Warzone’s Floof Fury Tracer Pack. It doesn’t take more than a glance to tell that the similarities go far beyond a coincidence.

Although it’s possible that both skins being a Samoyed dog is a coincidence that’s where the coincidences end. Both the original art and the Warzone dog skin have near identical clothing. That includes the same scarf, the same satchel, and the same elbow pad.

It looks as though the artist is being genuine too. A look through saillin’s ArtStation account reveals that their original work was posted in December 2019. That’s right the concept art that has been plagiarized is from over two years ago.

Activision hasn’t formerly commented on the situation yet but its actions scream guilty. For one, it has removed any reference of the dog skin from the Warzone patch notes. Also, saillin has since confirmed that Activision has reached out to them. Hopefully, the situation gets sorted out and saillin gets appropriately compensated.

Not the first time

This isn’t actually the first time Activision has run into legal issues with Call of Duty. In 2019 Call of Duty Modern Warfare introduced an operator called Mara. But it turned out that Mara’s appearance was taken from a real-life model called Alex Zedra. Zedra later accused the publisher of stealing and monetizing her likeness which is a breach of copyright.

You may be worried about playing with friends who are not using the same type of platform. However, Call of duty comes with the crossplay feature allowing you to play with friends on different platforms. So, whether you are using a PC, and Xbox One, or a PS4, you can still create that dream team.

To enable you to connect with friends on other platforms, turn on the crossplay feature in your game settings. You may also need an Activision ID- which you get after you have created an Activision account. The Activision ID is the code you need to share with your friends so that they are able to add you.

●      About the Activision

Creating an Activision account is not a big deal. You simply need to visit the Call of duty official website. Then, click the Sign Up option in the top navigation bar. You will then be directed to a page to provide the required information.

The Crossplay feature makes it possible for you to connect and play with friends. First, you have to turn it on in settings. After that, navigate to the top right corner of your multiplayer screen and click on the Social menu. You’ll find it just underneath your Activision ID and your rank.

To join their game, right-click on their name and select Join game. To invite them to your game, after right-clicking on their name, choose Invite to party.

Furthermore, you can also use other means, including Xbox Live Gamertag, PlayStation Network Online ID, or Battle.net ID.

●      Requesting a new friend to join your team?

If you want to add a friend to your list, then take the following steps. Simply open your social menu and scroll to where you have the Add Friends option, usually to the left. Clicking on it will redirect you to a page where you are to type in their Activision ID. After you click on Send Invite, your friend will receive a friend request.

This article has the information you need to help players who don’t know how to go about creating their own teams.

Activision won’t be allowed to take part in this year’s The Game Awards

activision the game awards banned

The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has confirmed that Activision will not be allowed to take part in this year’s awards. The statement was posted on Keighley’s official Twitter account. This decision was made in response to the ongoing cultural issues that have plagued Activision for years.

According to Keighley, it is important that Activision isn’t allowed to compete as “there is no place for abuse, harassment or predatory practices.” By not providing the American publisher a platform he believes that the awards are making a difference. Keighley intends to use his platform to “accelerate and inspire change.”

Activision’s problematic culture

Despite this statement, Activision titles are still eligible to be nominated at The Game Awards. In fact, Call of Duty: Warzone has already been nominated for 2021’s Best Ongoing Game. It may not be able to win the award but even its inclusion is sure to be controversial.

The allegations against Activision from several parties are difficult to ignore. From its “Cosby Suite,” to CEO Bobby Kotick’s apparent apathy, the publisher has a deep culture issue that can’t be fixed overnight. That culture has created a workspace that is uncomfortable for all involved, but even more so for its female employees.

Of course, Activision isn’t the only culprit charged with these crimes. Both Riot and Ubisoft have had all sorts of allegations held against them too. Although these seem to have drawn less attention from the wider community. Case in point, there are no known plans to prevent these two companies from taking part in The Game Awards.

Hopefully, having a large award ceremony take a stance against Activision will prompt some much-needed change. It’s going to be a long journey to make things right but this is a promising start. Having an event that is in the public eye address this has the potential to force change. If that potential comes to light though is to be seen.

Black Ops Cold War will be integrated into Warzone come December

Black Ops Cold War

With the release of the next Call of Duty title right around the corner, some concerns are inevitable. Amongst these concerns is how Black Ops Cold War is going to work alongside Warzone. We hadn’t received too many details from Activision regarding this topic but earlier today we finally got some much needed information.

When Black Ops Cold War releases on November 13, it will not feature Warzone. The popular battle royale game mode will instead follow shortly after in December. In the meantime players will have access to Treyarch’s signature Zombies mode alongside multiplayer and story mode.

Black Ops Cold War Warzone update

Call of Duty: Warzone has gone down as a huge success for Activision’s hit FPS franchise. Despite debuting just seven months ago, it has already reached eighty million total players. These numbers put it in direct competition with other genre titans like Fortnite and PUBG. Not bad for something that started off life as a spin-off.

Its inevitable integration was confirmed way back in September. But we now know that Activision isn’t changing the progression model. All level unlocks acquired from 1 to 55 in Cold War will be usable in Warzone too. It’s much the same for gun unlocks, camos, blueprints, and operators.

What we don’t know is how this game will interact with Modern Warfare. Both games feel and play very differently so having their respective Warzone modes overlap could be difficult. Supposedly, Treyarch’s plan is to let players pick either a Modern Warfare loadout or Black Ops Cold War loadout beforehand. But how that will work from a balance point of view is hard to gauge.

We’re also still left with the most obvious question of all unanswered. Will this game bring a new Warzone map with it? Or are we just going to be playing on either the same map or a reskinned version going forward? Only time will tell but we at least now know that there will be some kind of crossover.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered trailer leaked

Modern Warfare 2

Before Modern Warfare 2019 dropped many Call of Duty fans were hoping for a Modern Warfare 2 remaster. Unfortunately, neither Infinity Ward nor Activison Blizzard seemed overly interested at the time. However, that looks to be changing very soon if the recently leaked trailer is anything to go by.

Originally sourced from an early German PlayStation Store listing, the leaked trailer confirms the existence of an MW2 remaster. In the trailer we see many iconic moments from Modern Warfare 2’s campaign. This includes the Gulag escape, snowmobile chase, and the ever iconic No Russian mission.

Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

Modern Warfare 2 RemasteredExisting owners of Modern Warfare 2019 and Call of Duty Warzone will benefit from a new content drop too. The upcoming Classic Ghost Bundle will add Modern Warfare 2’s Ghost as an operator, as well as an M4A1 Task Force blueprint. As it features a unique finishing move, player card and plenty more, you can expect it to be on the pricier side.

Speaking of price, the listing itself had Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered available for $29.99. For that, you will get access to a graphically enhanced version of MW2’s seven-hour campaign. The trailer doesn’t provide any details of a potential Spec Ops game mode, meaning it probably won’t feature.

Modern Warfare 2 Campaign RemasteredAs for when you can expect to play this, the trailer says, “Available now,” rather than stating a release date. Given this and the suggested release date in the leak, a launch as early as March 31 is a real possibility.

We have zero information regarding the multiplayer or if it will come in the future. With Modern Warfare 2019 being so successful, it seems unlikely Infinity Ward would launch another title to take away from it. If Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer did get remastered, it would split the player base. Instead, Call of Duty fans will probably have to wait until Treyarch’s 2020 title for something fresh.
