How to unlock the Carv.2 tactical rifle in Black Ops Cold War

As per Call of Duty tradition, a new gun has been released alongside the mid-season update. Several other post-launch guns have been introduced in order to fill an unoccupied niche. A good example of that is the ZRG 20mm, which is Cold War‘s hard-hitting, but slow-handling sniper rifle. The Carv.2 continues that tradition by giving Black Ops Cold War a burst gun that falls between the M16 and KSP 45.

Making its first return to the franchise since the original Black Ops, the Carv. 2 is a tactical rifle based on the real-life G11. It is a three-round burst gun that competes directly with the M16 and AUG. The main advantage it has over those two is its superior fire rate. However, that increased fire rate comes at the cost of fewer one-burst kills and a shortened effective range.

Unlocking the Carv.2

As with every other mid-season addition the Carv.2 is unlocked via an in-game challenge. Progression through the battle pass is not required, unlike Season 3’s other two new guns. Thankfully, the required challenge isn’t overly difficult and most players will be able to complete it within two hours.

The challenge is ‘using tactical rifles, rapidly kill 2 or more players in 10 different completed matches’. What the game means by “rapidly kill,” is just to earn a double kill or better. In Black Ops Cold War, a double kill is earned when two enemies are killed within three seconds of one another.

Treyarch is kind enough to run the Nuketown 24/7 playlist all of the time. This is the best playlist to complete just about any unlock challenges in Black Ops Cold War, Carv.2 included. Nuketown is a small map where gunfights occur very often. This is great as it makes it more likely for you to run into multiple enemies in quick succession.

Load into Nuketown 24/7 and choose whatever tactical rifle you are most comfortable with. Pre-aim an angle that you expect the enemy will come from. There are several great spots to do this in Nuketown. Also, being able to predict spawn rotations can help a lot with this challenge as Cold War likes to spawn teammates together. Catching a team just as they spawn is practically a free double kill.

When a double kill medal appears at the top of your screen, that will give progress towards the challenge. Be sure to check the Carv.2 on the create a class menu mid-game to make sure the double kill counted. Finally, do not leave lobbies even after progress is made. Leaving a lobby early will cause any progress to be undone once Cold War is reset.

Even if you reach 10/10 on the challenge by leaving games the Carv.2 will not usable in Black Ops Cold War. It will still display as locked and as soon as the game is reset progress will be set back to 0/10. As for Warzone only players, the best method is to go into Plunder, equip a tactical rifle, and try to get two kills in quick succession. It can help to land in hotspots like Storage Town and Superstore. Also, the Stopping Power field upgrade makes it easier to chain kills together as it provides temporary double damage. Unlike Cold War, lobbies can be left early in Warzone.

Infinity Ward confirm that missing Modern Warfare maps will return soon

Modern Warfare maps new map Killhouse

The Season Two reloaded update brought with it plenty of content to the Call of Duty franchise. Both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War received a bunch of balancing changes and a new gun. What fans didn’t expect though was three new maps for Modern Warfare.

The 2019 first person shooter had not received a major update in several months prior to these maps being added. However, the addition didn’t last long. Just a few days after the update Infinity Ward removed two of the three maps. It had remained silent on the matter until now but has finally provided a much-needed update.

They are coming back

Modern Warfare maps gunfight
As posted on the official Infinity Ward twitter, both maps will be returning soon. According to the developer they were launched earlier than intended and still require “a bit more love,” before going live.

The maps in question are Drainage and Al-Raab Airbase. Both of these maps were leaked a long time ago but didn’t enter Modern Warfare until recently. Given the lack of updates for Modern Warfare over the last year, it is disappointing to see them removed. Hopefully Infinity Ward sticks to its word and we can try them out again soon enough.

It’s not just maps that have received this treatment either. There are three guns in Modern Warfare that are fully functioning and modelled, but haven’t been released. These are the Sykov, CX-9, and RAAL. Unlike the maps, Infinity Ward has not publicly acknowledged these or provided a release date.

Whilst it is nice to see Modern Warfare receiving updates once again, these new maps are probably not a sign that things are going to improve. Raven Software is hard at work developing Warzone whilst Infinity Ward are likely working on a new Call of Duty altogether. Regardless, the communication is appreciated and it’s nice to see Modern Warfare hanging in there.

The leaked Warzone map Ural Mountains likely originated from Blackout

We’ve known for a while now that a new Warzone map is in the works. The leaks first appeared a few months back when the name Ural Mountains first appeared. Originally, we thought that Ural Mountains was a remake of the existing Warzone map, Verdansk. But the leak that has come out today has revealed some fascinating new information.

Instead of being a remake of Verdansk, it turns out Ural Mountains most likely started life as a Blackout map. Blackout was Call of Duty’s first attempt at creating a battle royale. Bundled as part of Black Ops 4, it wasn’t overly successful. Since Warzone has taken over the Blackout population has faded outside of a handful of diehard fans.

Ural Mountains is coming

Warzone Ural Mountains Verdansk map

The theory is that Warzone was not intended to have Cold War integrated into it. Instead, Treyarch had likely been working on a Blackout 2 of sorts. However, once Warzone gained so much traction plans changed and Blackout was scrapped. This left Treyarch with the difficult task of converting Ural Mountains into a Warzone map.

The leaked images suggest that Ural Mountains will be made up of several existing Fireteam maps. Fireteam is a large-scale game mode in Black Ops Cold War that sees ten teams of four battle over various objectives. It isn’t overly surprising that Ural Mountains will consist of Fireteam maps as this is what the original Warzone map did too.

The Verdansk that players know is effectively a merging of several Ground War maps. Similar to Fireteam, Ground War is another large-scale game mode exclusive to Modern Warfare. It’s an effective strategy as it allows a developer to create one map that covers multiple game modes.

However, it doesn’t look as though Ural Mountains will be coming to Warzone anytime soon. Even though Ural Mountains itself isn’t the Verdansk remake, that remake is still expected in the near future. It seems likely that the Verdansk remake will drop in Season 3 later this month whilst Ural Mountains will follow in a later season.

Activison remove R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow from Warzone and Cold War

Warzone R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow early release

Yesterday Activision accidently released the R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow early into Warzone. It could be unlocked via an in-game challenge or purchased from the store. It However, the publisher has reversed the change and some fans aren’t happy.

Anyone who purchased the bundle has been refunded for their purchase. You’ll be able to re-purchase the bundle again when it goes live again later. Assuming it is planned to be a mid-season release, players can expect the R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow to drop early next month.

It hasn’t gone down well

Warzone R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow bundle

Had Activision simply removed the crossbow Call of Duty fans may have not been too bothered. However, the publisher has chosen to reset all progress players made with the crossbow. If you earned mastery camo on it you won’t have unlocked once the R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow is released.

Unlocking Gold camouflage on a gun can take several hours. In Black Ops Cold War especially, gun levelling is very slow. This is an unusual move as in the past Activision has not punished players for similar situations. For example, some Modern Warfare players have unlocked the Sykov pistol early and have kept access to it for months.

On one hand, I can understand Activision’s position. It was an unintentional release and it likely doesn’t want anything messing up its release schedule. AAA games like Call of Duty usually have strict schedules that developers have to adhere to. It’s currently unclear why this mistake happened in the first place.

However, there was no indication that the R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow was released by accident. Therefore, it seems unfair to punish the most dedicated players who put aside time to play your game. As far as we can tell, there is no plans to revert this decision. Once the crossbow releases for real next month players will have to level it up again from scratch.

New leak claims GTA 6 will feature the series’ first female protagonist

Grand Theft Auto is one of the most successful video game franchises ever made. But it’s been over seven years since we last got a new instalment. But recent leaks suggest that GTA 6 is coming along well and that it could be making some big changes. Most notably, an inside source has claimed that it will be the first Grand Theft Auto to feature a playable female protagonist.

Specifically, the leak says that you’ll be able to play as both a female and a male. It’s unclear exactly what this means. It could be a system similar to GTA V where you could switch between Frankling, Trevor, and Michael. However, it’s not out of the question that we could see some kind of character creator instead.

What we know about GTA 6

GTA V park screenshot

The source for this leak is surprisingly trustworthy. Tom Henderson is a well-known and respected source known for several Call of Duty and Battlefield leaks. His Black Ops Cold War leaks in particular have been flawlessly accurate over the last few months.

Unfortunately, we don’t know too much else about GTA 6. Publisher Rockstar Games has kept its cards close to its chest with little to no official information being confirmed. It’s expected to take place in Vice City due to the previous pattern established by the franchise. The mainline games have always rotated between San Andreas, Liberty City, and Vice City.

That’s not the only reason Vice City looks likely though. Last year it was reported that Rockstar was poking around asking various synthwave artists for music clearance. Needless to say, nothing quite says the 1980’s like some good old fashion synthwave. Although given varied and large GTA V’s soundtrack was, this hardly confirms GTA 6.

Regardless of when it comes out, the next Grand Theft Auto will be one of gaming’s biggest releases. After all, GTA V is the most grossing video game ever published. Over two years ago it had made Rockstar over $6 billion. With the amount of microtransactions present it’s fair to assume that number has climbed considerably since. And whilst GTA V is still raking in the numbers, I doubt Rockstar will feel any need to rush GTA 6 out.

Black Ops Cold War will be integrated into Warzone come December

Black Ops Cold War

With the release of the next Call of Duty title right around the corner, some concerns are inevitable. Amongst these concerns is how Black Ops Cold War is going to work alongside Warzone. We hadn’t received too many details from Activision regarding this topic but earlier today we finally got some much needed information.

When Black Ops Cold War releases on November 13, it will not feature Warzone. The popular battle royale game mode will instead follow shortly after in December. In the meantime players will have access to Treyarch’s signature Zombies mode alongside multiplayer and story mode.

Black Ops Cold War Warzone update

Call of Duty: Warzone has gone down as a huge success for Activision’s hit FPS franchise. Despite debuting just seven months ago, it has already reached eighty million total players. These numbers put it in direct competition with other genre titans like Fortnite and PUBG. Not bad for something that started off life as a spin-off.

It’s inevitable integration with Black Ops Cold War was confirmed way back in September. But we now know that Activision isn’t changing the progression model. All level unlocks acquired from 1 to 55 in Cold War will be usable in Warzone too. It’s much the same for gun unlocks, camos, blueprints, and operators.

What we don’t know is how this game will interact with Modern Warfare. Both games feel and play very differently so having their respective Warzone modes overlap could be difficult. Supposedly, Treyarch’s plan is to let players pick either a Modern Warfare loadout or Black Ops Cold War loadout beforehand. But how that will work from a balance point of view is hard to gauge.

We’re also still left with the most obvious question of all unanswered. Will this game bring a new Warzone map with it? Or are we just going to be playing on either the same map or a reskinned version going forward? Only time will tell but we at least now know that there will be some kind of crossover.

The next Call of Duty just got leaked thanks to a packet of Doritos

Doritos

Leaks about the next Call of Duty game have prevalent over the last couple of months. And yesterday we saw the biggest and most reliable leak yet. As part of a Doritos’ advertising campaign, a packet spread online references the next CoD installment.

As revealed by the leak, the next Call of Duty will most likely be called Black Ops: Cold War. Although it is a bit of a mouth full, the branding make sense. The Black Ops franchise is huge and with the success of the Modern Warfare reboot, a similar approach seems sensible. As for the Cold War part, the original Black Ops released in 2010 was also set in the Cold War.

What have Doritos revealed?

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War crossbow

It’s not just the game’s name that has been leaked. The promotion itself features a competition that starts October 5. Given that Modern Warfare was released at a similar time, October 25, this could hint at Cold War’s release date.

Although the source hasn’t been officially verified, it does seem reliable. Doritos and Activision have ran annual partnerships for several years now. The idea being that if you want to get the edge on your opposition, you can purchase Doritos for some double XP.

The same promotion is usually matched by both Monster Energy and Mountain Dew. This means you should have plenty of choice if its something you’re interested in. Regarding the double XP, the small print suggests it’ll be limited to 1 hour per day and 40 hours total.

This leak follows a successful datamined that revealed the name of several multiplayer maps. Amongst these were Black Sea, KGB, Miami, Moscow, and Tank. A handful of campaign missions were found too such as Stakeout and Revolution. Either way, it shouldn’t be long until Activision confirms if this Doritos leak is real.
