Empire: Total War Review – Ultimate 18th-Century Strategy Game

Empire: Total War – A Game Review

The grand strategy game Empire: Total War by Creative Assembly This is part of the renowned Total War franchise that also includes successes like Rome: Total War and Total War: Shogun 2. Here, you play as a nation and are responsible for making the important choices and decisions that go on in your nation that can alter history. World domination, diplomatically or militarily? A buzzing economy? YOU ARE THE CHOOSER in Empire: Total War.

A New Era Of Strategy

It takes the series into the 18thcentury for the first time. This age indicates the ascendancy of technology and warfare in sophistication. The main character now has guns and cannons allowing characters the freedom of how to fight. Combine this with improved graphics and larger-scale battles, to add extra excitement. But does Empire: Total War REALLY deliver?

Empire: Total War Gameplay Overview

Two Parts, One Goal

The gameplay in Empire: Total War feels more refined than ever. It’s divided into two main sections.

  1. Turn-Based Strategy
Your empire expanded on a more sprawling map. Control armies, manage cities and trade with other factions; Rather, unique units (like spies and missionaries). These can hinder foes and provide you with an advantage.
What’s great is the game’s flexibility. You can automate tasks like managing taxes or cities. This lets you focus on strategy or dive into the details—it’s entirely up to you.
Every action matters. Waging war on some microcountry can net you more land, but it makes other factions less inclined to trust your desires. All these combos make the game fun to play-over-and-over.
  2. Real-Time Battles
When armies clash, the game switches to real-time battles. You see your units and the battlefield in full detail. Command your troops, adjust strategies, and counter enemy attacks.
Each unit has strengths and weaknesses. For example, some are great against cavalry, while others excel against infantry. Learning this is key to winning battles. But if you’d rather skip the action, you can use the autoresolve feature.

Depth and Accessibility

The depth of Empire: Total War is unmatched. However, it might feel overwhelming for beginners. If you’re new, start with lower difficulty. Automate taxes and city management until you’re comfortable. Once you understand the basics, you can take full control.

Naval Combat – A New Feature

The series is also introducing real-time naval battles for the first time. They provide a new experience but are slower than we saw in the land battles. If a little fine-tuning and overhauling occurred, these could prove to be a welcome highlight of future installments!

The Highlights of Empire: Total War

This game shines in many ways. The massive battles are visually stunning. Seeing 200 to 300 soldiers on the battlefield feels epic. The diplomacy system is equally engaging. You decide who to ally with and who to wage war against.

The game offers endless possibilities. Whether you love planning, fighting, or managing, there’s something for everyone.
