After capping off in what has undoubtedly been one of the best years of gaming that is 2023, it looks as if 2024 hopes to be just as impactful and memorable. With mainstream entries like Tekken 8 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, to indie title games like Black Myth: Wukong and Pacific Drive, there’s no shortage of games, exclusive and non-exclusives alike, that won’t appease us in the year that is to come. Everyone has their own set of games to look forward to in 2024 and these are some of ours most anticipated games of 2024:
1. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Windows
Release Date: January 26th
Not only does Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth serve as the sequel to 2020’s Like a Dragon, but it also features the protagonist of the LAD, Ichiban Kasuga and the original protagonist from the Yakuza series, Kazuma Kiryu. Not only that, the series marks the first-time the game takes place outside of Japan; America.
In this game, we get to see both heroes tear through the setting of Honolulu, where Ichiban will finally be able to reunite with his cancer-stricken mother. Fans of LAD can expect to see most of the same turn-based elements that made the first one stand out, filled with emotional storytelling and more.
2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth-One of The Most Anticipated Games of 2024
Release Date: February 29, 2024
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second game from the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy of the original 1997 Final Fantasy VII following 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake. Like the 2020 game, Rebirth looks to follow up on the same real-time action, along with a dash of RPG and strategy elements.
This game follows Cloud and his friends as they hope to put a stop to Sephiroth’s hopes of world domination. Based on the information available, Rebirth is poised to be a blockbuster release on February 29th, 2024, making it one of the most anticipated games of 2024.
3. Pacific Drive
Platforms: Windows and PS5
Release Date: February 22, 2024
Pacific Drive is an enthralling first-person survival game conceived from the minds of Everquest, Sly and Infamous. Set in a bizarre Pacific Northwest backdrop, you’re responsible for navigating your trusty station wagon through a foreboding territory, evading metallic monsters that latch onto you while you scour for parts and components to keep your station wagon up and running.
Since the game comes from familiar minds, we can rest assured that the game will deliver on the premise and mechanics that have many on the edge of their seats until its arrival.
4. Tekken 8
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows
Release Date: January 26th, 2024
Tekken 8 looks every bit like the Tekken of old along with new and returning characters from the past along with a stunning graphical aesthetic thanks to the Unreal 5 engine. We feel like it will have somewhat of an impressive launch as we got from Street Fighter 6, but that depends on the product we get upon release.
The game looks to continue the father-son beef of Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama from Tekken 7. Building on the foundation of T7, players can expect familiar gameplay mechanics such as Rage Drive, along with the introduction of a new element known as the Heat system, making Tekken 8 one of the highly anticipated games of 2024.
5. Princess Peach Showtime!
Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: March 22, 2024
It’s been nearly 20 years since we got a solo Princess Peach game, from 2005’s Super Princess Peach. While it may have been a bold move at first, it also drew criticism because of the stereotypical ways that women were portrayed at the time.
At the moment, we can’t tell how the actual game itself will turn out, but given Peach’s transformations from a sword fighter to a detective and Kung fu expert, it’s evident that Nintendo is gearing up to deliver another outstanding entry among the anticipated games of 2024, following in the footsteps of recent titles like Super Mario Wonder and Super Mario RPG.
6. Rise of the Ronin
Release Date: March 22, 2024
If the minds of Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, and Nioh are at the helm of this title, you know for sure action RPG fans are going to eat well on March 22nd 2024. You’ll especially want a title like this if you’re familiar with elements and mechanics like that of Sekiro and Elden Ring’s open-world exploration.
The story of Rise of the Ronin progresses with how you want to play the game. Not only will you wield a handful of different katanas, but you’ll also get to use numerous firearms from the Boshin War and traverse on horses, gliders, or even a grappling hook. And since you can’t see it, I’m already salivating at what we’re getting.
7. Black Myth: Wukong
Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Windows
Release Date: August 20, 2024
This particular action RPG just came out of nowhere and made a big splash in the gaming community not just for its impressive graphical fidelity, but also its impressive Dark Souls/God of War like elements and epic boss fights. it stands as the first major Chinese AAA title to emerge from the newcomer studio Game Science in the realm of anticipated games of 2024.
Based on the 16th-century novel Journey to the West, you are in control of a character based on Sun Wukong, the protagonist of said novel, as you fight a bevy of enemies that throw themselves right at you with your trusted magical staff.
