There are a lot of goodies that SOMA throws at you, and a ton of challenges as well. Now that we’ve learned how to tweak the game for a perfect experience, we should start focusing on the content. One one particular puzzle managed to keep me busy and trying over and over again: the ARK Simulation puzzle. It’s a really difficult puzzle, but also relatively easy to solve once you crack how it works. I did and I am here to share my findings with you!
Lets start by explaining how things work, in case you want to give it a try yourself and not refer to the image I’ll upload below: in order to solve the ARK Simulation puzzle in SOMA, you will need to free up enough space by removing files, but making sure that those you remove are not required by those you remove. Some modules go hand in hand with others and most of them are pretty much logical choices: for example, if you want to run a water simulation, you need water physics from the System function. With a bit of trial and error, you can do it yourself!
But if you don’t want to do that, here is the solution for the ARK simulation puzzle:
I sure hope it helps – it did drive me crazy for a long time, but after figuring out it all makes sense.
The creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent send us below the waves of the Atlantic ocean in the newly released sci-fi horror experience called SOMA, and you’re probably having the time of your life jumping off your chair and running away scared, with your heart racing crazily. Well… we’re not here to help you with that, but in case you want to tweak and improve your SOMA experience a little bit, we can help with that with this tutorial: We’ll deal with removing FPS Cap Limits, increasing FOV and getting more from the game if your rig is strong enough to handle the extra pressure. Which probably is since you are here.
So let’s not waste any time and let’s see how to tweak the performances of SOMA!
How to remove the FPS Cap Limits
1 – Go here: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Soma\Main\
2 – Open the next file with a text editor like Notepad: username_randomnumbers_user_settings.cfg
3 – Find line: Engine LimitFPS=”true” and change it to: Engine LimitFPS=”false”
4. Save the file and restart the game. Go to Options > Display > and choose the max refresh rate. Also set VSync OFF if you love your life 🙂
How to increase FOV in SOMA
Follow the instructions above to open the user settings file and search for “Gameplay FOV” The full line will be something like Gameplay FOV=”XXXXXXX”, where the Xs are your actual FOV. Just change the value to increase your FOV – for example, set it to Gameplay FOV=”100.000000″ to get it to 100.
How to run the game in Windowed mode
Editing the same settings file, change the FullScreen=”true” value to FullScreen=”false”.
Hopefully these tweaks will help you enjoy SOMA better and have more fun playing the game without those restrictions.
