Pokemon Sun And Moon Announcement: Video Analysis & Theories

Earlier today (26/02/16), fans of the Pokemon game series waited anxiously to hear news and potential confirmation of the newest installments to the series leaked the day before. However, after a very tense wait, the details leaked prior were confirmed and the squeals of excited Pokemon fans echoed worldwide, Pokemon Sun & Moon are officially on the way, due later this year (2016).

Now, in correspondence with the order in which the Pokemon games are usually released, fans were expecting more of a Pokemon Z release, especially after the X and Y game releases followed by the Ruby and Sapphire remakes (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire). I appreciate this makes little sense to those outside the community of avid Pokemon fans however, those within these borders will understand that it was what we were expecting. Now, that said when the titles Sun and Moon were trademarked, it was fair to say we were surprised however, the excitement for these new installments is still present regardless. Now, let’s look into the reveal video itself.

Although a brief video, we can make several assumptions about what we can inspect in the latest installment. The first notable thing we can see in this video is the new assumed flying type Pokemon, resembling either a woodpecker or humming bird of some kind. This leads us to believe the obvious that there are in fact going to be a number of new additions to the Pokedex in Sun and Moon. Could this mean some more mega-evolutions are going to be unveiled also? Furthermore, we can see numerous conceptual designs for vehicles. The most recent incorporation of cars and land vehicles in the Pokemon game series was in X and Y in which Lumiose City possessed a taxi service to help to traverse the enormous city. Could this be hinting towards a potential follow on to Kalos much like Black 2 and White 2? As it no longer seems we are getting Pokemon Z, or for a while at least shall we say.

Pokemon Sun And Moon Theories

As expected of the dedicated Pokemon fans, many theories of the new installments have already arisen in regards to the new designated region, new potential mega-evolutions, legendaries and generally about how the new games are going to tie in with it’s predecessors.

From what I have gathered so far, there are several reoccurring ideas:

  • Zygarde and it’s newly released forms are to be associated with the sun game. This is because of it’s forms needing photosynthesis in order to develop.
  • Sun and Moon are definitely going to have some relation to Kalos, whether they actually be based in Kalos or islands situated around Kalos. This is due to references in X and Y for instance, the sundial in Anistar City (Pokemon Sun).
  • Potential Mega-evolutions of Solrock and Lunatone both representing each of the games, possibly posing as exclusives.

All of these are relatively plausible ideas seeing as Zygarde’s new forms would seem redundant if only used in the new Pokemon movie. Futhermore, it would seem out of character for Nintendo & Gamfreak to not incorporate Kalos into the new games in some shape or form also considering how they are due a Pokemon X and Y follow on of some sort.

As this year progresses more teasers are bound to be put out there to taunt us but until the profoundly awesome moment in which these new games are released, it is fair to say we are going to let our minds run wild with these brilliant theories in order to get by.

Prehistoric Pandemonium – ARK: Surival Evolved

ARK: Surival Evolved

Fleeing from a hungry T-Rex, taming dinos of all shapes and sizes, bringing down prehistoric beasts with a ton of spears. All of these dino antics become possible in indie developer, Studio Wildcard’s online multiplayer game – ARK: Survival Evolved.

Demand For Dinosaurs

At this particular moment in time we can see the gaming market is lacking anything ‘dinosaur’. With the growing demand for dinos growing thanks to the upcoming release of, Jurassic world, it becomes apparent that developers of ARK: Survival Evolved, Studio Wildcard have indeed made a wise decision to taunt gamers with a prehistoric orientated genre of game. With little competition to steal their sales it seems that already, this game could be a huge success. With the social aspect to gaming constantly growing it is more than convenient that this online multiplayer game or MMO is going to be thrown into the works in time to come. With all things taken into consideration, you could say that, Studio Wildcard have struck gold, or the remains of a fully intact dinosaur skeleton, if you’ll accept the poor analogy.

Dino-Deranged

Although exceptionally obvious, it is probably worth noting that from the announcement trailer above, Studio Wildcard have already earned themselves a pat on the back. The very beginning of the trailer sets the initial tone for the game, intensity. Sprinting from the primitive nashers of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, does well to lay the grounds for such an atmosphere. Furthermore, the player is already presented with a stretching span of  ventures to indulge in. The ability to tame dinosaurs is probably the most profound aspect displayed throughout the trailer. The player can dominate the skies upon a Terrasaur, ride the heavily armoured back of a Stegosaurus or even command an aquatic dinosaur for a stroll along the sandy beaches. Not to mention the journey upon the back of an unusually large scorpion, cringe. As the engrossing gameplay within the announcement trailer continues, we can see these beasts being hunted and taken down by barbaric weaponry such as tomahawks, spears and even a bow and arrow. To top off the content within the trailer, Studio Wildcard have also developed a beautiful and vibrant setting for players to explore. ARK: Survival Evolved appears to be set on an island of some kind, alive in tropical flora. Scattered throughout the island appear to be native settlements and the entire island as a whole surrounded by vast ocean. It is highly possible that a lot of the enjoyment players will get from this very intriguing game, could be derived from exploring it’s potential open-world setting.

As If Dinosaurs Weren’t Enough…

One of the most fascinating parts of the announcement trailer for, ARK: Survival Evolved was towards the end in which a dragon could be seen setting everything ablaze with it’s fiery breath. Could this be some insight into the potential involvement of some other mythical beasts? I mean we do also get the pleasure of watching some Dodos make haste before the player hunting it. With the surprise of the dragon and with plenty to do already, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if, Studio Wildcard had more surprises in store for us to unveil at a later date.

The Waiting Game

With such exciting gameplay footage released in the announcement trailer, ARK: Surivival Evolved is going to be one to watch over the upcoming months. It would be unreasonable to put it past, Studio Wildcard not to add to the list of content within this incredibly appealing game. The time of the dinosaurs has quite clearly returned in the form of ARK: Survival Evolved.

The Forest Coming To PS4

Forest

Sony announced via Playstation Experience that The Forest, a terrifying game of struggle and survival, will be coming to the Playstation 4.

Though no release date has been given, Sony was gracious enough to drop a spooky announcement trailer for those willing to have their pants torn off in fear.

You have been warned!

If you are a frequent visitor of VGamerz, you might recall an article I did on why you should play The Forest. After delving into the early access on Steam, I stand by what I said. It is both ambitious and unsettling, even if it’s not always for the right reasons.

I only hope that on the PS4, It will receive all of the updates and continue to expand as a game, as it is still in development.
