Syfy and Trion Worlds Plan Defiance, Interconnected MMO Shooter

Good news for gamers and lovers of Sci-fi madness! Trion Worlds and Syfy have joined forces for the trans media synergy power of Defiance, an ambitious MMO shooter due next year. Players can even immerse themselves in a sprawling narrative that will bridge between the two with Defiance, an ambitious project that combines a scripted drama series with a multiplatform MMO shooter.

A New World Awaits in the MMO Shooter

Taking place on a terraformed Earth, newly destroyed…AUG 08 Defiance transports players to an entire transformed planet Earth. Seven original alien allies have been added to the empires on planet. Additionally, the question is how we humans and warmongering aliens learn to live side by side. Moreover, this should be an unpredictable world. It creates a bit of a hostile and cooperative environment within the game.

The Heart of Defiance

For the better part of a year, viewers of the Defiance television series have seen an intensely immersive character drama unfold in the burgeoning community town of Defiance, built upon what was once known as St. Louis, MO. Players will explore the new frontier of the San Francisco Bay area in-game concurrent to that. This unique arrangement stays true to the spirit of the series; it allows both a dramatic line and an action-driven gameplay to inform and change each other over time.

Picture how neat it would be to influence where the story goes based on your in-game choices. Furthermore, now put one of the characters in the game, picture yourself taking them out of it and having them disappear from the show. The exciting idea combines playing and binge-watching one of your shows into a single experience.

What’s Next for Defiance?

SyFy is planning on releasing the Defiance MMO Shooter game alongside the series in April 2013. Additionally, the series was created by Kevin Murphy (A.K.A Desperate Housewives, BattleStar Galactica) and is executive produced by Murphy and Michael Taylor. It looks promising, and with a team like this behind the project, things could be even better.

In the meantime, you can expect to see more artwork and sneak previews of what Defiance has coming up. But, beyond a game, the museum presents an example of what could be the future of interactive entertainment. This is where Untitled Game really shines.
