Dragon Age Inquisition Has Multiplayer, Debut Trailer Released

Dragon Age

Despite Bioware having teased it months ago, the official announcement of Dragon Age Inquisition‘s multiplayer is still a shock. This week, the Xbox Youtube channel as uploaded the first reveal trailer of the co-operative multiplayer mode that the game will offer.  With a focus on unique classes, mini-campaigns, and customization, this mode appears to be very entertaining, but don’t take my word for it.

Say what you will about Mass Effect 3 and it’s multiplayer mode. At the end of the day, it was a surprisingly polished, balanced and enjoyable experience. Nobody wanted it, and nobody was excited when it hit, but the community was booming and the action never stopped.

If Bioware manages to make this mode even half as close to as fun as Mass Effect 3 was, I think it’s safe to say that we’re in for a treat. This is especially the case when you consider how few high fantasy games actually offer any sort of online experience.

Below is the mode in action; prepare yourself for the first taste.

New Dragon Age Inquisition Screenshots Tell Us to Hold the Lion

Dragon Age

BioWare has posted on the official Twitter account of Dragon Age Inquisition several new screenshots from the game, showing us a new and chilly area from the upcoming game. And even though I’ve personally had enough cold weather to last me for a lifetime, I still enjoyed the level of detail in the new screenshots, as well as the red spikes that I am sure bring the warmth. And some really crazy monsters to battle.

The new area in the upcoming Dragon Age Inquisition is called the Emprise Du Lion (which means “hold the lion” in French, if Google Translate is to be trusted). It surely has something to do with the castle that we see in some of the screenshots, one protected by huge chains and also guarded by a few people, judging from the red tents posted at the gates. Also, those red lava-like spikes seem to have completely taken over a tower – probably a prison where the “lion” is held, so despite the snow and the chilly weather, I’m sure it will get really warm for the player. Oh, and there’s a dragon too, because we’re talking about Dragon Age Inquisition!

Now get a hot chocolate and look at the new screenshots below, showing us the Emprise Du Lion, qui!

Dragon Age Inquisition: New Inquisitor Concepts Revealed

Dragon Age

BioWare has just revealed two new concept images of Dragon Age Inquisition featuring the game’s protagonist, the Inquisitor. The image expose two individuals, one from each genre, displaying their skills. The male Inquisitor appears to be some kind of mage-warrior, using one hand sword powered by elementary magic (possibly light magic). The second image presents a female Inquisitor whose specialization is clearly a mage. Small rock fragments can be seen floating around her body; she appears to be casting a earth gravitational spell.

The enemies displayed in the first image might be a direct effect of the veil’s breaching. They appear to be some kind of undead corpses but they don’t resemble any darkspawn models seen in the previous two games. Instead, they seem to be magical summonings, demon souls descending on the grounds of Thedas.

Dragon Age Inquisition will be available on October 7th for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Special Edition Will Be Announced Soon

Dragon Age

Dragon Age Inquisition will have a special edition ready for pre-purchasing in the months to come, ensured BioWare Creative Director Mike Laidlaw. The edition will be physical and it will most likely include itstatues, books and other unique and limited items resembling the series. For now, players can only choose between the standard and the digital deluxe editions. But as Laidlaw said, there will be a third option soon:
Hold tight. We’re looking at details about a physical special edition and should have them out soonish.
Additionally, Lailaw unveiled another spoiler relating Inquisition’s characters. Apparently, at least one unidentified personality from the novel book Dragon Age: the Masked Empire will appeard in the upcoming game: “I’m on the record as saying that at least one Masked Empire character appears in DAI, so, yes!”

it will be available on October 7th for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Open World Exploration Won’t Be as Extensive as Skyrim

Dragon Age

Dragon Age Inquisition will be quite different from the previous two games in many ways. The open world element will be one of the most enthusiastic and anticipated features of Inquisition and despite all its richness, depth and massive dimension, the game “won’t be as open as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim”, said BioWare Producer Cameron Lee. The third game of the series will be numerous times larger than Origins and Dragon Age II and it will feature around 50 hours of gameplay excluding all kinds of repeatability value, ensured Lee.

Inquisition will display a massive multi-region open world with many secrets to be unveiled and unlike the past games exploration will be highly encouraged and possibly rewarding. Exploration in Inquisition will be just as in real life, said BioWare Senior Environment Artist Andrew Farrell:

Get off the beaten path! Just like exploring in real life, look under all the rocks, under all the bridges, and in all dark corners of the map. Take the path less-traveled and you might something interesting… or surprising.

Dragon Age Inquisition will be available on October 7th for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Dragon Age Inquisition: The Inquisition Squad – Who is Who?

Dragon Age

BioWare has launched a huge update on Dragon Age Inquisition (DA:I), including a new gameplay trailer and a release date. The video unveils further details regarding Inquisition’s narrative and it also presents all the upcoming companions and some of the supportive characters. Even if most of those characters haven’t been formally announced yet, there is a lot of scattered information that can lead into solid conclusions. Discover the Inquisitor’s followers, as well as their class and possible role in the upcoming story.

1. The Inquisition Squad: There’s Only Nine Companions

It’s official for a long time that Dragon Age Inquisition will feature nine unique and complex companions, everyone else will either be a supportive or secondary character. This information used to be displayed on Inquisition’s official site but now, with the recent updates, the statement is just placed on retail partner sites, such as Collectorz:

DEEP AND COMPLICATED CHARACTERS: Lead a party chosen from nine unique, fully-realized characters – each of whom react to your actions and choices differently, forming complex relationships both with you and with each other.

This creates a polemic issue that fans have been trying to answer since the release of this information. If there’s only nine companions, then why are there twelve characters in the Inquisitor’s squad? The most obvious answer seems to contemplate the idea that Inquisition will feature supportive characters with very specific and significant roles. And even if they’re not companions, their importance won’t be inferior. Furthermore, BioWare has stated that other supportive characters are joining the Inquisitor’s squad – Morrigan and Alistair are two of them.

2. The Inquisition Squad: Who is Who?

DAI companions

This tremendous teasing from BioWare has no other purpose than to build up expectations among players. After all, with so many seemingly unknown characters, it’s natural to wonder who is who. Fortunately, it’s possible to identify most of the characters in the video and that’s mostly because Dragon Age has an impressive fan base.

Besides the three companions officially announced (Cassandra, Vivienne and Varric) and the four supportive characters (Alistair, Cullen, Morrigan and Thamond), in which three of them are not present in this image, everyone else remains in the shadows. But not in deep shadows. After conducting a deep searching, I was able to uncover most of their identities and here’s the result, following the character order in the image:

Dragon Age Inquisition Cullen1. Cullen (Presumed Supportive Character)

Cullen has always been part of the Dragon Age series and its multiple crisis. Now, he’ll return to help restoring order but possibly as a supportive character. BioWare has confirmed Cullen’s return during PAX East 2014 by assuming that he’lll be one of the possible romance options. However, Cullen appears in this video with a noble costume and no signs of a weapon. A strange detail for someone who has been part of the Templar Order for countless years. I think this can only indicate that Cullen won’t return as a companion.

vivi DAOI2. Vivienne (Confirmed Companion)

Vivienne is one of the few confirmed companions to date. More than being confirmed, she has received multiple articles in BioWare’s official blog regarding her background story, position and purpose in Inquisition. She is known as the Lady of Iron due to her determined personality and she will join the Inquisition Squad to aid her fellow mages however she can. Despite her rank and status as an Imperial Enchanter, Vivienne doesn’t allow anything or anyone to stand in her way. She’ll serve with righteous and legitimate magic and she might be a possible romance option.

Dragon Age Inquisition Varric3. Varric Tethras (Confirmed Companion)

The hilarious storyteller dwarf from Dragon Age II will return as a full time companion in Inquisition. Just as Vivienne, he has been announced for a long time too and he surely won’t disappoint. His instinct to get into trouble will serve him well once again, as Varric will find himself entangled in a war that is shaking the entire world. With enemies at every corner, the Inquisitor will surely need a friend like Varric – that guy who is loyal, honest, generous, funny and most of all, he always got your back. Let the adventure begin.

Dragon Age Inquisition Cole4. Cole (Presumed Companion)

Cole is an enigmatic character and assumed companion in Inquisition. BioWare has stated that a character from the book Dragon Age: Asunder will be seen in the upcoming third game and everything indicates that Cole is that character. The Inquisition squad features a male human character with messy blond hair that corresponds to the character’s appearance description in the book. Furthermore, Cole has transcendental powers and he is not entirely human; it’s not certain if he’s a spirit, a demon or even an abomination.     Portrait [email protected]

Dragon Age Inquisition Solas5. Solas (Presumed Companion)

Solas’ identity was leaked last month by the German PC magazine GameStar that branded the character as “Solace”. Later on, BioWare stepped up to correct the magazine’s mistake and ensured that Solas is indeed an upcoming character in Inquisition. Very few is known about this elf mage, other than he’s an expert on the Fade and has knowledge of ancient magic.

Dragon Age Inquisition Cassandra6. Cassandra Pentaghast (Confirmed Companion)

The great seeker needs no introductions. Cassandra has been part of nearly all Inquisition’s trailers and she’s probably the most divulgated companion so far. Cassandra will become the Right Hand of the Divine in the upcoming game and she’ll be one of the multiple romance options, as announced in PAX East 2014. With great power comes great responsability and it seems Cassandra, together with the Inquisitor, will be extremly involved with the political affairs of Thedas.

Dragon Age Inquisition Iron Bull7. Iron Bull (Confirmed Companion)

The Inquisition squad will be truly multicultural and as evident, a qunari subject couldn’t be missed. Iron Bull is a male qunari warrior and a confirmed Inquisition companion by Official Xbox Magazine. The rumors started when BioWare’s Lead Concept Artist Matt Rhodes created a concept art featuring this character. Back then, no one really knew who he was or what it meant but now everything’s crystal clear. Iron Bull is a mercenary and he enjoys to be far away from home, that way he can be unfaithful to his religion and kill, drink and steal as he wishes.

Dragon Age Inquisition Dorian8. Dorian Pavus (Presumed Companion)

Dorian Pavus is an underworld character. No one really knows where he comes from but there’s a few details circulating that might be true. Apparently, he’s a magister from the Tevinter Empire but he’s a bit different. Unlike most of his kind, he wishes to free his homeland from slavery and corruption. He is a mage and part of his staff can be seen in the squad picture, which indicates he’s a presumed companion.

Portrait [email protected]

Dragon Age Inquisition Leliana 9. Leliana (Confirmed Supportive Character)

BioWare has recently confirmed that romance options in previous games won’t return as companions. Now, Leliana was a possible female romance in Origins, which means she won’t be a companion in Inquisiton for certain. At the end of Dragon Age II, Leliana appeared to be Cassandra’s counselor. Besides that, in this squad picture she is seen without her rogue daggers and with a Chantry’s amulet. Meaning she has become totally devoted to political affairs.

Dragon Age Inquisition Sera10. Sera (Confirmed Companion)

Sera is a female elven archer and a confirmed companion for Dragon Age Inquisition by Official Xbox Magazine. Apparently, she was leaked accidentally and nothing much is known about her. She is a young and frenetic rogue who believes that what you do is more important than where you’re from.

Dragon Age Inquisition Scribe Girl11. The Scribe Girl (Presumed Supportive Character)

The scribe girl has no name yet and nothing is known about her other than she’ll most likely be a supportive character related to intellectual matters, including trades. Her noble and notorious costume indicates that she’s most likely well positioned in society. She has been spotted in official concept art wallpapers before.

Dragon Age Inquisition Gregor12. Grey Warden Gregor (Presumed Companion)

The information circulating regarding this character is very doubtful and inconclusive. Fans assure that this bearded male human is the Grey Warden Alistair’s mentions during Origins, he’s supposedly a notable Gray warden known for his stunning drinking skills. Furthermore, he has been spotted in several concept arts and a pre-alpha gameplay trailer released in 2013.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Gets Release Date, New Trailer

Dragon Age

EA has announced that Dragon Age: Inquisition is coming out on October 7 in North America, and October 10 in Europe. Along with this announcement comes a brand new game play trailer that details much of the plot outline and some of the more vague aspects we’ve not yet seen.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition, the expansive, beautiful world of Thedas is being torn apart by a massive, mysterious breach in the sky. Players must assume the role of the Inquisitor and lead a team of legendary heroes to uncover the truth behind the impending devastation.

Well, I’m excited. It seems like Bioware is trying to show that they’ve learned their lesson as far as Dragon Age goes. With an entirely new combat system, robust world to explore, and a plethora of characters to interact with, we can all hope that it succeeds in delivering a polished and redemptive close to the trilogy.

If all of that weren’t enough, EA also released several screenshots and the official box art for your viewing pleasure.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Rumors Point Towards a Dye System in Armor Customization

Dragon Age

There are rumors circulating the internet concerning Dragon Age Inquisition’s armor customization system. According to BioWare, this system will clearly differ from the previous two games, as VgamerZ reported two days ago. Equipment customization will be more complex, extensive and diversified. However, Dragon Age fans are curious if whether or not the upcoming system will feature dyes. Today, in response to a player, BioWare’s GM Aaryn Flynn indicated that was affirmatively said in the past is true until proven otherwise. Check the Twitter conversation here:

@Jorori22: Can I change the color of my companions armor?

@BioMarkDarrah: We will talk about crafting later. It’s too big a topic for twitter.

@AarynFlynn: It’s a “we can’t talk about it yet”. Sorry, but thanks for your patience!

@Jorori22: Long ago were saying yes.

@AarynFlynn: OK then please assume that’s still accurate until you hear anything else 🙂

Nothing is certain yet but it appears to be that color changing and dyes will be part of Inquisition’s armor customization system. The rumor suggests that players won’t simply be able to modify their equippment, they’ll be able to customize their companion’s gear as well.

Dragon Age Inquisition is expected to be released during this Fall for current and next-gen platforms, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Equipment Will Be Customizable

BioWare’s Creative Director Mike Laidlaw announced today that equipment will be customizable, confirming the rumors that both Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II armor systems will differ from Inquisition’s. In the previous games, the protagonist’s equipment couldn’t be customized and the companion’s armor couldn’t be changed either, but that will radically change in the third game of the series, as Laidlaw stated:

@Mike Laidlaw: We’ve mentioned you can customize your armor, yes. Not specifically boots that I recall.

Apparently, boots won’t be customizable. Could that mean that the Inquisition’s armor will be displayed on sets? That would clearly explain why players won’t be able to customize single armor parts, such as boots. However, when it comes to party members the system seems to work slightly different. Armor pieces will be interchangeable between companions and each one will look differently according to its specification and class. Additionally, it hasn’t been confirmed yet if armor dyes will be effectively existent.

Mike Laidlaw has also stated that Inquisition’s specs are not available yet but they’ll certainly be out before launch. Dragon Age Inquisition is expected to be released during this Fall for current and next-gen platforms, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
